Interview from Boston Voyager Magazine 2018
Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Art has always flowed through my veins. Even at age five I went door to door in my neighborhood, selling my artwork, making a handful of change that I didn’t even know how to count. It wasn’t that I wanted to be an artist sometime in the future, when I grew up, I already knew I was an artist. My brain was always thinking, looking at, and creating art. It was the essence of my entire being.
After receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University, like many artists I was raising a family and working a full time job while still pursuing my art career. I was fortunate to land in a career in sales and marketing, which in hindsight was invaluable as I market my own work now.
In addition to my obsession creating art full of color and texture, I’m also very passionate about using my gifts to try to make the world a better place. I teach monthly art classes at local nursing homes and at a cancer treatment center. It’s so rewarding to help people take their mind off their worries, while at the same time helping them unleash their inner artist. I also work closely with many non-profit organizations including the Victory Center and Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio. I’m very proud and humbled to have helped to develop a mobile pediatric art program with Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio, where I provide art lessons for hospitalized pediatric oncology patients. I also had the privilege of illustrating three children’s books for the series “Someone I Know Has Cancer.” I hope to continue and expand my work like this in the future.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To quote author Napoleon Hill, “Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” One of the biggest challenges for all artists is getting their work and name out into the world. I struggle with this also. What works for one artist might not work for another. You have to relentlessly pursue ways to promote your work, whether it’s online, in a gallery, at art fairs or any other avenue you might find. Life is short and there’s no secret formula for success, so take some chances!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Greg Justus Modern Impressionism – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My goal, whether I’m creating my own artwork or teaching a class, is to bring a smile to someone’s face. The bright colors and whimsical approach in my work is a clear reflection of how I approach life: with fun, humor and joy. I’m proud to be able to use art as a way to impact people’s lives. I am always creating new work so please follow along with my art journey!
